A Mountie in Surrey, B.C., is facing firearms charges after he allegedly pointed a gun at a group of young people in a park.

Const. Jason Gernhart has been charged with pointing a firearm for a February incident. Police say he was responding to a nighttime disturbance call in a park when he encountered the youths.

Gernhart has now been re-assigned to administrative duties and is the subject of an internal code of conduct investigation. He had less than two years of service with the RCMP at the time of the alleged incident.

A court date has yet to be set.
