A two-year-old Surrey girl died tragically on Sunday after she was struck by her mother's car while the vehicle was being reversed.
The incident occurred in the driveway of a home in the 7000 block of 141A Street in Newton at around 11:00 a.m. Witnesses say the toddler ran behind the car.
"It was just frantic. The little brother, I guess, was going back and forth screaming, no one was comforting him. I wanted to hold them all, but it was just so sad," Richard Mitchel, a neighbour, said.
The child was declared dead at the scene.
"When I came out I saw the lady... I saw blood, I said: 'What happened?' She said from there: 'My baby! My baby!' She was ready to go in the same car to go to hospital. I said: 'No, stop, [the] ambulance is coming,'" another neighbour, Teja Thind, said.
Surrey RCMP attended the accident, but say criminal charges are not expected.
