A special prosecutor has been named to review the case of a B.C. MLA jailed after a domestic dispute with his wife.

Pat Pimm, the BC Liberal representative for Peace River North, resigned from the party caucus last week after he was arrested in Fort St. John and spent the night in an RCMP holding cell.

Vancouver lawyer Mark Jetté was appointed on Monday to review the police report into the incident and decide if Pimm should be charged.

Pimm, a first-term MLA, has also resigned from his position as parliamentary secretary for natural gas.

He and his wife Jody have four children.

Premier Christy Clark has said that Pimm's decision to step down was a wise one.
