VANCOUVER - Alex Edler and Mason Raymond each had a goal and two assists for Vancouver as the Canucks whipped the Edmonton Oilers 7-3 on Saturday night.
Edler scored his first goal of the season -- and first in 33 games -- as the Canucks put four past Edmonton netminder Jeff DesLauriers on 11 shots. Vancouver built a 5-1 lead after the first and cruised most of the way.
Christian Ehrhoff, Alex Burrows, Mason Raymond, Tanner Glass and Daniel Sedin also scored for the Canucks (14-11-0) before 18,818 at General Motors Place. Ryan Kesler picked up three assists for Vancouver as the Canucks posted their fourth victory in five games.
Gilbert Brule, Colin McDonald, Dustin Penner scored for the Oilers (10-13-4), who suffered their third straight loss and eighth setback in 10 games.
The Canucks outshot the Oilers 35-34 while going 4-for-5 on the power play. Edmonton went 2-for-4 with the man advantage.
The Oilers started slowly a night after learning second-leading scorer Ales Hemsky would be lost for the season with a shoulder injury.
The Canucks took advantage of an Edmonton squad that was missing eight players, including No. 1 goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin, to injuries and illness.
The Oilers were also playing the second game of back-to-back, after losing 5-4 in a shootout at home to San Jose on Friday.
Ehrhoff opened the scoring on a power play 3:16 into the first, beating DesLauriers with a slapshot stick side.
Burrows put the Canucks ahead 2-0 less than two minutes later on a nifty move at the edge of the Edmonton crease.
The goal was the second in two games for Burrows, who managed just an empty-netter in his previous 18 before Thursday.
Moments later, DesLauriers showed his frustration by punching antagonistic Vancouver winger Tanner Glass after making a glove save.
DesLauriers was assessed a roughing penalty and Raymond beat him with a high wrist shot on the ensuing power play.
Daniel Sedin ended the Edmonton goaltender's night on a high backhand at 8:25. It was Sedin's first goal of the season, but his second point in two games since missing 18 with a broken foot.
Oilers coach Pat Quinn replaced DesLauriers with Devan Dubnyk, giving the fifth-year pro his first career NHL regular-season appearance.
Brule got the Oilers on the scoreboard on a power play at 14:44 on Edmonton's third shot of the game. But Glass, with his second goal in two games, put in a shot off an Oiler stick with 17 seconds left in the period to give the Canucks a 5-1 advantage after one.
McDonald reduced Edmonton's deficit to 5-2 at 6:06 of the second and just over a minute later, Penner converted a Brule pass to bring the Oilers within two.
Penner's goal was his 15th goal in 27 games this season. He managed only 17 in all of 2008-09.
But Edler's first goal of the season put the Canucks ahead 6-3 at 12:08.
