A part of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside has been turned into an outdoor rock show in support of Insite, the city's controversial safe injection site.
The Saturday night show, which features the Ontario band Bedouin Soundclash and B.C.'s own Black Mountain, is a victory for organizers who have tried - and failed - to stage similar shows in the past.
In October, A free concert by Bedouin Soundclash in front of Insite was cancelled before a single chord was played because police say organizers did not secure proper permits from the city.

The site operates under a federal drug law exemption and allows addicts to inject heroin under supervision. But it has also come under intense criticism from the federal government, which has indicated it wants to shut it down.
Organizer Mark Townsend hopes tonight's concert will send a message to Stephen Harper and the Conservative government.
"It's time to put ideologies aside, and put politics aside," he says. "We're saving lives here and the evidence is there and he really needs to start listening."
