Authorities have scaled back the search for a missing B.C. teenager whose red kayak was found empty on a beach Thursday morning.
Police say 16-year-old Orlando Graham was last seen departing on a solo kayaking trip off Hornby Island at around 2 p.m. Wednesday.
His Kayak was found the next morning with a paddle still attached and the lifejacket he had been seen wearing inside.
Despite a massive search on Thursday and Friday, Comox Valley RCMP say there is still no sign of the teen. Crews suspended the ground search on Saturday, but will continue to scour the water.
The search effort began Thursday with two helicopters, one police and one military, along with a military plane and at least 11 boats. There were also almost 60 searchers, 13 fire department officials and a police dog involved.
The military pulled out late Thursday, but Mounties and civilian personnel continued the search on Canada Day morning.
Graham is described as just under six feet tall with a slim build and curly brown hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a green long-sleeved shirt.
Anyone with information on his disappearance is asked to contact the Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321.
