An associate of the gangster gunned down on the night of his engagement party has been named publicly and charged with a gun offenses, Vancouver police announced today.

It's not believed that Lawrence Brinley Wilson, 37, of Vancouver had anything to do with the shooting, but he has been charged with three weapons offenses and a gun charge.

The charges stem from allegations that while trying to leave Gotham Steakhouse and Cocktail Bar, a gun dropped from Wilson's belt. Police searched him and also say they found a small amount of cocaine.

Wilson was attending the engagement party for Ricardo Scarpino, 37, who was shot dead with a friend while pulling up to Gotham Steakhouse in a black SUV in front of his horrified fiance.

Police say they are still searching for the two gunmen that fled across the Seymour Street, tossing a gun in a church lot.
