Former Vancouver mayor Sam Sullivan has won the BC Liberals’ nomination in the Vancouver-False Creek riding.

The party announced Sullivan’s win over opponents Lorne Mayencourt and Brian Fixter on Wednesday night.

Sullivan issued a statement describing the May election as the “most important election in many years.”

“It’s a very exciting time to be a part of today’s BC Liberals,” Sullivan said. “We have a strong leader, a bold plan for B.C., and momentum on our side.”

Polls have shown the party lagging behind the provincial NDP for several months, though they benefitted from a small uptick in December and January.
