Police are warning drivers to be cautious after three vehicles were damaged in a rock slide early Wednesday morning on the Sea-to-Sky Highway.

The West Vancouver Police Department said the rocks started tumbling onto the highway around 1:30 a.m. just north of Horseshoe Bay.

No one was injured, but Cpl. Jag Johal said the incident should still be a reminder for motorsists to slow down at this time of year, when there's a heightened risk of rock slides and tree slides.

“The weather conditions right now going to freezing and back, you’re going to have the mountainous terrain expanding and contracting and you’re going to have the soft soil movements,” Johal said.

“One thing drivers can do is slow down. It increases your reaction time and that makes it more likely you can avoid the collision.”

Police urge drivers to go under the speed limit in tough winter conditions, and to avoid tailgating so they’ll have plenty of space to stop in the event of an accident.

In December, a tree fell across all four lanes of the same highway, injuring seven people.
