The family of 12-year-old John Fulton has both praise and criticism for the RCMP in British Columbia.

Fulton's family praised members of the RCMP and the public who volunteered their time and resources to look for John, who was found murdered two days after he vanished Saturday from the steps of his Grand Forks home.

But the statement, released yesterday to the CBC, also criticized the RCMP for its handling of the case.

The family says they're concerned an Amber Alert was not issued when John, who has autism, was reported missing.

The family says John couldn't have run away because his autism would not have allowed him to go out of his comfort zone.

RCMP Corporal Dan Moskaluk says Amber Alerts are activated under certain conditions, which include police having reasonable grounds to believe a child under 18 has been abducted.

Moskaluk says in John's case there was no evidence to suggest he was abducted or in danger.

John's body was found Monday in the home of a woman who lives in the same townhouse complex.

Kimberly Noyes was arrested yesterday afternoon.

She remains in custody and has not been charged.
