Montreal filmmaker Xavier Dolan's first feature film has won the Vancouver International Film Festival's jury prize for best Canadian film.

Dolan's "I Killed My Mother" about a young gay man's relationship with his mother was picked from 19 films in the competition at the 16-day festival.

The award for most promising director of a Canadian short film went to Montreal's Jan Binsse and David Tougas for "The Last Act."

The B-C film 65 Roses garnered three awards, including most popular Canadian film and most popular Canadian documentary.
