Vancouver police made a public appeal Friday for help solving the mysterious disappearances of five young men.

The men, all aged between 19 and 29, were the only remaining open cases for 2011 and a few became high profile after each seemingly vanished.

Matthew Huszar was among the most recent who went missing after a staff Christmas party in Gastown Dec. 16. His friends went on several rounds plastering Vancouver with thousands of missing posters and canvassed the Gastown area.

"After three days you get concerned because he's the kind of guy that would contact his parents," close friend Dustin Perry said.

Huszar's parents offered a $10,000 reward for information on his whereabouts. Police received around 30 tips but none provided any substantial leads.

"At first it was really difficult to deal with it. I didn't really sleep for the first couple weeks," Perry said. "Slowly, we kind of learned to get on with life… but you can't really get it out of your mind."

Other unsolved cases include Brian Mbaruk, Mitchell Gallivan, Daniel Holt and Pemadach Tatti.

Each file was reviewed by the Major Crime Section but police could not find any new information after the men were last seen or evidence suggesting foul play.

"It's very frustrating -- that's why I'm here today to appeal for any tip anybody has out there," said Sgt. Kirk Star of the Missing Persons Unit at a press conference. "Like the families said in their appeals, ‘Somebody must have seen something' and I'm hoping that somebody comes forward with information and we'll act on it."

He said there are no significant links between the files and each went missing under different circumstances.

Star added in a release 3,691 people were reported missing last year in Vancouver which accounts for more than 10 people every day.

Whistler RCMP are also still searching for 34-year-old DJ Mike Grefner, who went missing in the early morning of Jan. 17, 2012. A Pemberton waitress reported spotting him dining with a woman later that afternoon but police have not had any new leads since.
