A man police accuse of robbing nearly a dozen banks across Metro Vancouver this summer has been arrested, in a joint effort made by three separate law enforcement agencies.
Police announced Thursday morning that Paul Michael Bennett, 33, has been charged in connection with 11 bank robberies that occurred between July 29 and August 20.
Last Friday, officers from the North Vancouver RCMP serious crimes unit, the Lower Mainland RCMP emergency response team and the Vancouver Police Department descended on Bennett near East 33rd Avenue and Victoria Drive, where he was taken in to custody.
Police say Bennett has an extensive criminal background, including a previous robbery conviction. He remains in custody, and will appear in court on September 21.
The VPD released a map detailing the times and locations of the robberies Bennett is accused of committing, which range from North Vancouver to Richmond.
Sixty-one bank robberies have been reported in Vancouver so far this year.
