Police are looking for a man whose pit bulls attacked another man walking his dog in Surrey, B.C. on Sunday.
The pit bulls bit the man in the leg and also injured his dog in the attack, said Surrey RCMP Staff Sgt. Randall Marquardt.
"The dogs were with a male and by the time we got there the dogs and the male had disappeared," said Marquardt, adding that the incident could be characterized as "a bite-and-run."
"We're working towards ID'ing the suspect and his dogs," he said.
Ambulances were called to the area, at 146th St. and 80A Ave. in Surrey at about 1:20 p.m. to attend to the man, who is in his 40s.
The injured man refused medical attention, but his dog is being brought to the veterinarian, the man told CTV News.
The incident could mean discipline for the owner of the pit bulls, including a possible fine because of bylaw infractions relating to off-leash dogs, said Marquardt.
And the dogs may face their own punishment, he said.
"That depends on the dog -- were the dogs scared, do the dogs have a past history, it could result in a fine for the owner or as drastic a step as having the dog put down," he said.
In May, an 11-year-old Surrey boy was attacked by two pit bulls. Sean Bajwa needed more than 100 stitches and three hours of surgery to repair deep wounds to his head, legs and arms after he was attacked by two pit bulls.
And two weeks later, eight-year-old Kumuljeet Singh Hans and his four-year-old sister Harmon were bitten by a vicious dog while on a neighbourhood walk.
