A Kelowna Mountie who has been suspended from duty since January, when he was filmed kicking a suspect in the face during an arrest, has had his pay revoked.
Const. Geoff Mantler is facing two counts of assault causing bodily harm for the Jan. 7 incident and a separate altercation last August, the details of which have not been released.
He was originally suspended with pay, but Supt. Bill McKinnon confirmed Monday that Mantler's pay was revoked last week pending the outcome of his criminal case.
Video footage of the January arrest made headlines across Canada, depicting Mantler winding up to kick Buddy Tavares in the face as the 51-year-old suspect knelt on the ground next to his truck.
The blow knocks Tavares to the ground. When he is rolled over, a pool of blood can be seen beneath his face.
Mantler was also investigated for a third incident, which also took place in August. The Mountie was accused of breaking a suspect's tooth, cutting his face and giving him a black eye during an arrest.
No charges were filed in the incident, though his superiors condemned his behaviour as disgraceful.
