Central City Plaza, Surrey

The City of Surrey's Party for the Planet festival is pleased to announce the return of B.C.'s largest Earth Day celebration on April 27-28 at Central City Plaza. Last year's successful event was attended by over 10,000 people and was a fun family celebration of Surrey's numerous green initiatives.

Surrey's Party for the Planet, presented by TD, boasts a diverse talent line-up to celebrate our commitment to the environment with two distinct festival days programmed for youth and families. Plus, join CTV News at 6pm on location Friday, April 27th!

The energetic Friday night line-up will inspire thousands of youth with great pop music and environmentally themed interactive exhibits while Saturday's line-up will focus on families and children.

"Our Party for the Planet celebration will be one of the largest Earth Day events in British Columbia, with outstanding musical acts and lots of fun eco-entertainment for the entire family," says Mayor Dianne Watts. "I'm proud of Surrey's sustainability accomplishments and I look forward to showcasing our initiatives at this year's Party for the Planet."

Party for the Planet will showcase some of the most popular bands in Canada. Headlining the event is Down with Webster, core artists in today's music industry. Created for a school project in 1998, Down with Webster has become one of Canada's premiere pop music acts. Signed to Universal Motown Records the high energy, eclectic-sounding group has caught the attention of many music industry icons including super producer Timbaland and legendary Kiss front man Gene Simmons. The band's singles are in steady rotation on local radio playlists and they have seen numerous award nominations and wins, including Best Pop Video at the Much Music Video Awards.

The event will also showcase international artist Raghav. With the summer radio hit "Fire" and the current single "Top of the World" pop/dance artist Raghav is heating up the charts. Having sold 1.3 million copies of his debut CD "Storyteller" in England, and it being a major seller in South East Asia, he's both a Canadian and international success.

The Friday night stage will also be shared with Peak Performance finalists The Boom Booms, EMI Music's newest recording artist Shawn Hook, and local Surrey band Good for Grapes.

Saturday's family oriented event will feature popular children's stars from Treehouse TV, Bobs & Lolo, the Ta Da Lady, Kids Performer Mike Battie, and the SuperChefs. The day will also include three highly anticipated Meet and Greets with The Backyardigans!

Party for the Planet is an opportunity for the City of Surrey to showcase key sustainable initiatives, such as, traffic and transportation, waste diversion, trees and landscapes, water management, and energy. The event is a great way to provide education and awareness to the public through fun and interactive environmental activations and community engagement.

Green organizations and features at this year's event will include Nature Matters' Salmon Life Cycle Obstacle Course, Surrey Nature Centre's Forest Display, Orphaned Wildlife Rescue's Birds of Prey Demonstration, Scavenger Hunt Straw Maze, BC Chicken Growers Poultry in Motion Educational Mini Barn, and the Safeway Country Farm.
