An elderly man is dead after a fire Tuesday morning in a Burnaby apartment building.
Burnaby RCMP said the victim was believed to be in his mid-80s.
Smoke had been seen pouring from an apartment on the 13th floor of the 15-storey building on Acorn Street around 10:30 a.m. The Burnaby Fire Department believes the fire started in the man's kitchen and that he was likely overcome by the smoke.
The fire department and the RCMP remained on scene in order to investigate how the fire started.
The man is not being named until next of kin have been notified. Other residents are being allowed to stay in their apartments.
