Vancouver Police believe the city's 14th homicide of the year may be targeted.
Just before 1 a.m. Saturday police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of East 1st Avenue and Commercial Drive.
Officers arrived to find a man dead of apparent gunshot wounds in the backseat of a taxi.
The driver was shaken up, but not hurt.
Witnesses say they heard up to six shots before the incident.
VPD spokesperson Jana McGuinness says the victim is known to police but his name has not been released.
In the meantime, police are looking for a silver Mazda MPV, which witnesses say was seen speeding away from the area.
