Twitter is a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time. Sort of a quick messaging meets Facebook. At this week's "Massive" Technology Show --Chris Breikss of 6-S ("success") Marketing had a Twitter display --and was highlighting what Twitter can do for business communication.
But he also explained why if you're not Twittering now --you might be before too long.
"In terms of numbers, Twitter is gaining in popularity. The February 2009 numbers Twitter has grown 1,350 per cent over February of last year.
Whereas Facebook has only grown 200 per cent compared to last year," he said.
Seven million users are now signed up for twitter versus 176 million for Facebook, so it hasn't reached that level yet. But it's seeing some amazing growth.
After Facebook became really popular, we started hearing the warnings about people putting too much information up there -like their year of birth -and putting themselves at risk for identity theft.
Twitter has similar security concerns that you should be aware of. For example, you can control who you follow --for updates --but not who follows you.
You can lock your profile but many newbies to the service don't do that. The other thing is that if you Twitter that you are shopping Robson for example, it's broadcasting that you're not home.
If you are already a Twitter user, you can follow Olsen on Your Side, and you will be automatically updated on the stories we're working on.
