A career thief with 78 past convictions has been arrested again after a woman was allegedly assaulted on New Year's Eve.

Vancouver police say the woman claimed to have been assaulted and threatened by 51-year-old Tracy Lloyd Caza.

He was arrested without incident and released from custody on a number of conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6 on charges of assault, sex assault and uttering threats.

Authorities issued a warning about the Caza in early December after he was released from federal prison with no court-ordered restrictions on his movements.

The notorious thief has a long history of preying on the elderly; in one of his most shocking crimes, he stole rings from a 91-year-old who was recovering in hospital from a leg amputation.
