New Democrat Leader Carole James says campaigning for two Vancouver provincial byelections has been difficult because voters are worn out.

She says she's encountered voter fatigue in dramatic fashion while door-knocking for Wednesdays vote in the vacant Vancouver-Burrard and Vancouver-Fairview ridings.

James says one woman welcomed her into her home but politely told her she was too late for the Oct. 14 federal election.

The byelections were called after former New Democrat Gregor Robertson resigned his Vancouver-Fairview seat to run for Vancouver mayor in next's month's municipal election and Liberal Lorne Mayencourt stepped down in Vancouver-Burrard to run federally for the Conservatives.

The current standings in the B.C. legislature are 45 Liberals and 32 New Democrats, as well as the two vacancies.

B.C. voters will head back to the polls in May to elect a new provincial government.
