The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken on its first murder case of the year after a man was found dying in a Surrey alley Wednesday morning.

Police discovered the unconscious 41-year-old victim lying in the alley behind the 12800-black of 92 A Avenue shortly after 8 a.m. He was taken to hospital and put on life support, but was pronounced dead seven hours later.

An IHIT media release says an autopsy will be necessary to determine the cause of death, but the victim, "sustained injuries consistent with a homicide." The victim's identity is being withheld until his family is informed.

Investigators were canvassing the area where the victim was discovered to find witnesses, but a suspect has yet to be arrested.
