The Surrey RCMP is investigating an early morning drive-by shooting, the latest in a string of shootings in the region.

Witnesses reported hearing shots on 68th Avenue near 123rd Street just after 2 a.m. Thursday.

Mounties arrived shortly after finding evidence that a shooting had occurred.

It's believed someone in a gold-coloured vehicle opened fire on another car. The targeted vehicle then drove off, crashing into a stone wall a few blocks away.

Police say the suspected shooter then opened fire again before leaving the area.

"I heard four pops: pop pop pop pop," said Gurdawar Dhami, who lives in the area. "Then two seconds (later) another pop, then another five seconds there was six shots and after about 30 seconds there was sirens all over."

Police say the driver of the targeted vehicle is a man in his 20's and is known to them.

The suspected shooter is still on the loose and no one was injured.

More than two dozen shootings have rocked Surrey and Delta since early March, many of them with links to low-level drug crime.

Sgt. Dale Carr said Mounties are now trying to determine if the latest gunfire is linked to any of the other shootings.
