An Edmonton Mountie has been charged with second-degree murder after his wife's body was found inside the couple's home early Saturday morning.
Neighbours reported hearing five or six gunshots at the home, located in the southeast Edmonton neighbourhood of Jackson Heights, at around 4 a.m.
RCMP Const. Tarith Sehmbi's wife was found dead at the scene. Sehmbi was arrested a short time later at another location.
Sehmbi, a 36-year-old with seven years of service with the RCMP, was charged with second-degree murder and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. He worked in the traffic services division.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, the oversight agency for all police in the province, conducted the investigation.
The couple has two children, but police say they were not at home on Saturday morning.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine how the victim died.
