The B.C. mother accused of murdering her young daughter was visibly crying during her first court appearance Thursday.

The lawyer representing Lisa Deanne Batsone asked the court for her to be seen by a doctor and psychiatrist while she is in custody.

She appeared in provincial court less than 24-hours after the lifeless body of her child was discovered in the trunk of a car in Surrey, B.C.

After receiving reports of a minor accident in the area, Mounties located the car in a ditch in the 13900-block of 35A Avenue.

Batstone, 41, was arrested at the scene and was charged with second-degree murder Thursday morning.

Homicide investigators have identified her daughter, Teagan Batstone, as the victim.

An autopsy is scheduled to determine how she died. Homicide investigators don’t believe it happened where the vehicle was discovered.

"We believe that the child was transported here," Sgt. Jennifer Pound told CTV Vancouver. "We don’t have a specific timeline on when the death occurred."

Shortly after police released Teagan's name, her grieving father Gabe Batston wrote a message on Twitter lamenting that “life will never be the same.”

Teagan is an only child, according to B.C.’s homicide investigation team.

Officers have been canvassing the area for witnesses and processing the scene.
