A man has turned himself in to police in connection with a fatal hit-and-run in Burnaby, B.C.

A woman was struck by a full-sized, white work van while crossing Imperial Avenue, near Marlborough Street, about 8 a.m. Thursday. She later died in hospital.

The driver of the van failed to stay at the scene, police said.

A spokesperson for the Burnaby RCMP said a man phoned police early Thursday afternoon. He was picked up by members in Richmond and taken in for questioning.

The woman's identity has not yet been released.
