Man charged after victim pinned to tree with vehicle in Victoria
A 34-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges after allegedly striking a man with his vehicle and pinning him against a tree in Victoria, causing serious injuries.
Court records show Cristian Ganzo-Murpy was charged with one count each of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle following the incident.
The Victoria Police Department says it received a report of a man screaming for help in the 600 block of Hillside Avenue around 2 a.m. on Dec. 1.
"Officers arrived and administered emergency medical aid to the victim, who had suffered serious and life-altering injuries to his leg," the department said in a release announcing the charges Thursday.
The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, leaving his vehicle up against the tree, police said.
Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to hospital for treatment.
Ganzo-Murpy later called the Victoria Police Department to turn himself in, police said. "He was then located by officers and taken into custody," according to the release.
Ganzo-Murpy remains in police custody pending his next court appearance scheduled for Friday.
"Further details are not available as the investigation is ongoing and before the courts," the Victoria police said.
