A man has been airlifted to hospital following a broad-daylight shooting in Maple Ridge Saturday afternoon, Mounties say.

RCMP were called to a property east of 240 Street and Lougheed Highway by a man who said he had been shot, according to Cpl. Alanna Dunlop.

The man was taken by air ambulance to hospital, and officials are still trying to determine exactly what injuries he suffered.

RCMP shut down a stretch of Lougheed Highway while investigators and police dogs searched for the alleged shooter, who has not yet been located.

“Something like this we need to investigate thoroughly to determine if there was an incident where someone was shot,” Dunlop said. “We’re securing the property, searching the property. We did not locate anyone else on the property when we arrived.”

Investigators are trying to figure out exactly what happened on the property. The man’s condition is currently unknown.
