Approximately 1,500 people will light up Stanley Park's seawall Saturday night in Vancouver as they participate in Light the Night, a fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Campaign Director Monica Sayers said the seventh annual walk raises much needed funds and awareness for blood cancers.

"Our fundraising goal is $600,000 this year and the money will go toward life saving research and finding a cure for blood cancers," she said.

Walkers will march along the seawall carrying illuminated balloons. "We have red balloons for supporters, white balloons for patients and survivors, and yellow balloons in memory of," Sayers said.

After the hour-long walk, participants will gather in Lumberman's Arch in Stanley Park for an evening of entertainment and a light show.

Sayers said it's not too late to join tonight's walk, for more information visit www.lightthenight.ca.

The event takes place all over North America and provides hope, inspiration, information and support for people fighting blood cancers and supporters of the cause. Light the Night will take place in Victoria on Oct. 22.
