The roof of BC Place is leaking a day before the newly renovated stadium hosts the Grey Cup on Sunday.
Water dripping onto the field on Saturday came from the glass seal between the actual roof and the retractable glass roof, BC Place general manager Howard Crosley told CTV News.
The 99th Grey Cup is the new stadium's national coming out party. It's expected to have a television audience of five million people.
"It's something very important for them to make sure they get it right, because 563 million dollars has been spent on this renovation -- just over half on the roof itself," business commentator Tom Mayenknecht said. "It's got to be a big concern for them because they do not want this to be a story after the Grey Cup that fans had rain coming on them."
Crosley said this won't happen because the only leak found was located over the playing field, and not the stands. It has since been fixed. He's also taking measures to ensure no other possible leaks are discovered.
"We have a crew up on the roof just checking for last minute potential drips of water that might be up there," he added.
Crews had to install several temporary roof seals earlier this year to make sure BC Place was ready for its grand opening last September.
"What's happened since opening day is the temporary seals have all been replaced with permanent seals and those seals are created by welding process between two pieces of fabric," Crosley said. "But like any welding job there's always potential for a bad weld or a spot where there might be water intrusion."
BC Lions CEO Dennis Skulsky is not worried about raindrops causing a problem for Sunday's big game.
"Come on, we're Vancouverites. I mean at the end of the day, if there's a leak they'll fix it," he said. "We can be outside on a normal stadium and be soaked, that ain't going happen in there."
The retractable roof will be closed for the Grey Cup.
