The St. Thomas More Knights defeated the Notre Dame Jugglers 29-13 in Friday's High School Heroes game of the week.

The game began with an explosive 80-plus yard kickoff return for a touchdown by the Knights' Marwin Empainado.

Notre Dame was quick to respond to the Knights early score. Shane Devlin and Matt Johnson combined for a lengthy first possession capped off by a Devlin touchdown reception.

St. Thomas More would put up another touchdown in the first quarter again with Empainado running it into the endzone.

The Jugglers would score another major before the end of the first half, but failed to convert on the extra point sending them the locker room down 14-13.

The second half was marred by penalties, but the Knights found a way to pull ahead for good by adding another two touchdowns.

Both teams showed a lot of promise in the season opener.

Notre Dame displayed that they have a defence many teams will not want to face, as they forced four turnovers.

The Jugglers offence despite the great running performances from Devlin and Johnson were unable to move the ball with any consistency through the air.

Next up for the Jugglers is the Holy Cross Crusaders, and for STM it is a meeting with the Vancouver College Fighting Irish.

Game highlights will be available online at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
