High school students in Abbotsford, B.C., are asking police to get drugs and gangs out of their schools.
Earlier this month, Abbotsford Police Chief Bob Rich warned that young drug dealers, who associate with gangs, were being murdered.
Now, high school students are asking police to do more.
Four young men have been murdered this year, including Joseph Randay and Dilsher Gill, who should have graduated with their peers last week. Police say there were links to drugs and gangs.
On Monday, the Police Board -- including the Chief of Police and the superintendent of schools -- visited Abbotsford high schools to talk about the issue.
Students had a lot to say. Some think having a uniformed police liaison around more often could help.
"I think it would cut down on people trying to sell [drugs] in school," one Abbostford high school student said.
"It could. Or there could be even more drug searches, metal detectors," said another.
As part of a strategy to educate the Abbotsford community about gangs, a public forum called Youth Gang 101 is planned for Wednesday night.
The forum begins at 7 p.m. at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium at 32315 South Fraser Way, next to Abbotsford City Hall.
