A judge in B.C.’s highest court has granted a permanent injunction against the Burnaby man accused of running an illegal dentistry clinic from his home.

Under the order, Tung Sheng Wu, also known as David Wu, may never perform dental work again. The judge is also granting a province-wide warrant for his arrest.

The rogue dentist is wanted for defying a 2003 order to stop practicing dentistry without a license.

The College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. wants Wu to serve jail time.

A lawyer for the college says Wu flagrantly and persistently showed contempt for court by practicing dentistry for 10 years after being ordered to stop.

“The college… views the facts of this case as extremely serious,” said lawyer Brent Olthuis.

Wu did not appear at a hearing at B.C. Supreme Court Monday morning, and the college believes he’s gone into hiding. There was no lawyer present at court to represent him.

Lawyers for the college say Wu disappeared after his home was searched, with the help of RCMP, on May 29.

The conditions inside the home weren’t sanitary, according to the college, adding that Wu may have been reusing needles.

Investigators seized 1,500 patient files from the Southwood St. residence, and supplies and equipment from a single bedroom functioning as a makeshift dental clinic.

A private investigator was hired to track down the dentist but he still hasn’t been located.

College CEO Jerome Marburg told CTV News any patient treated by Wu may have been exposed to blood-borne viruses such as HIV or hepatitis.

The Fraser Health Authority issued an alert saying anyone who had been treated by Wu should have their blood tested – and seek the attention of a licensed dentist.
