Legendary rocker Jon Bon Jovi is returning to Vancouver for what’s sure to be one of the biggest outdoor concerts of the summer.
Bon Jovi, who recorded his 1986 album Slippery When Wet in the City of Glass, will be kicking off his world tour with the Kings of Suburbia in Stanley Park’s Brockton Point venue on Aug. 22.
The show will also mark the launch of the Urban Forest series of open air events organized by Vancouver-based Paper Rain Performances.
“Our plan is to present the greatest artists in the world in some of the greatest natural outdoor venues in the world,” PPR president Dennis MacDonald told reporters Friday. “We are not doing indoor concerts.”
The series has been in the work for four years, and promoters say they will be moving on to Manhattan, Berlin and London after Vancouver. Details of the future shows haven’t been announced.
Tickets to the Bon Jovi concert will go on sale June 20. Prices start at $35 and go all the way up to $595 for the deluxe package, which includes the show, dinner and limo service.
Paper Rain Performances said it will be donating up to $100,000 of profit from ticket sales to imagine1day, a charity founded by Chip Wilson that’s providing education in Ethiopia.
