B.C. gangster Jarrod Bacon and his father-in-law Wayne Scott have been found guilty of conspiracy to traffic cocaine.
The two were convicted Friday in B.C. Supreme Court of agreeing to purchase as much as 100 kilograms of cocaine from a police agent back in August 2009.
Bacon, the 28-year-old middle brother in a trio of notorious suspected gangsters, testified that he had planned to steal the drugs, not buy them.
Police recorded both Bacon and Scott negotiating the deal, with the former assuring the agent he had a broker funding the transaction.
Bacon, who also admitted to being an Oxycontin, cocaine and marijuana user at the time of the sting, told the court he hoped to punch out the agent when he arrived and make off with at least 10 kilograms of cocaine.
"That's typically how a jack is set up," he testified. "I thought for sure I would be able to rob him."
No cocaine was ever exchanged between the agent and either Bacon or Scott.
At the time of the deal, Bacon was dating Scott's daughter Carly, and the two have a young child.
Police have linked Bacon and his brothers to the infamous Red Scorpion gang that operated out of Abbotsford, but Bacon testified that his parents lived a regular life and did not know about his criminal lifestyle.
The eldest Bacon, Jonathan, was killed last summer in a shooting outside the Delta Grand Hotel in Kelowna.
Jarrod's younger brother Jamie is currently in jail awaiting trial in the Surrey Six slayings that left six people dead in October 2007.
