The flood danger appears to have passed for communties on Vancouver Island hit by a deluge of rain and melting snow.

The B.C. government's River Forecast Centre has downgraded a flood warning in the Courtenay, Comox, Nanaimo and Campbell River areas.

The warning has been replaced with a high streamflow advisory, which means river levels could still rise quickly, but no major flooding is expected.

The rain and melting snow triggered a local state of emergency in Courtenay Tuesday as levels rose on several rivers, including the Puntledge, Browns and Tsolum rivers, but those levels are now falling.

There was some localized flooding and several roads were closed.

People in low-lying areas of Courtenay had to be evacuated in mid-November when heavy rain, melting snow and high tides pushed several rivers over their banks.
