A Langford, B.C. family has been left financially ruined after a rockslide caused extensive damage to their house early Sunday morning.

The slide, believed to be caused by heavy rain and blasting in the area, forced massive rocks to crash into the house, narrowly missing an eight-year-old boy.

Rocks slammed through the wall of the boy's bedroom while he was sleeping. Fortunately he wasn't hurt by the massive boulders.

"The force pushed him so far he was crunched up at the end of the bed," his mother Suzanne Renauld said.

Although no-one was hurt, Renauld said the incident was terrifying.

"It was three seconds of sheer terror. It felt like a train came through our house," she said.

The impact was even worse in the basement suite where rocks pushed five feet into a bedroom.

Yvan Sylvestre said that the most devastating part of the incident is that their insurance company won't cover the severe damage.

"What we've found out the hard way is there's no such thing as homeowner coverage for this type of incident," Sylvestre said. "Right now we're financially ruined."

Adding insult to injury, Sylvestre said that they warned the City of Langford about the risk of a potential rock slide on numerous occasions during the last year. Sylvestre said no-one listened.

"They chose to ignore it," he said.

The City of Langford is trying to arrange short-term accommodation for the family but officials are refusing to comment on the complaints or whether they should accept some responsibility for the slide.
