First it was felines, now it may be forwards, but the latest membership misstep in the BC Liberal leadership contest involves a frontrunning candidate and the Kamloops Blazers Hockey team.
Kevin Falcon's campaign manager has issued a statement saying the campaign has learned one of its supporters signed up several members of the Western Hockey League team without their knowledge.
Norman Stowe says campaign officials contacted Liberal party headquarters as soon the incident surfaced, asking that the sign-ups be removed from party membership lists.
Stowe says Falcon appreciates the support, but his campaign's first obligation is to work with the party and other leadership campaigns to ensure membership lists are as clean as possible.
A cat belonging to a volunteer with Christy Clark's campaign was recently removed from Liberal membership lists, while candidate George Abbott chastised what he called a "vendor" linked to his campaign after a website was created, making fun of the incident.
Falcon is one of three candidates claiming to have signed up more than 50,000 members prior to the Feb. 26 leadership vote and, if those numbers are correct, Liberal party memberships could be approaching levels the party boasted in 2001 when it almost wiped out the NDP.
