Mounties say impaired driving is suspected after a female officer crashed her vehicle on Highway 1 while off duty Sunday night.
The seven-year member of the RCMP, who is currently posted to the anti-gang Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, was handed a 90-day administrative driving prohibition and a 24-hour roadside prohibition after the crash in Surrey.
The crash occurred at around 10:45 p.m. in an area east of the 160th Street overpass. No injuries were reported.
The officer's name has not been released, but RCMP spokesman Sgt. Peter Thiessen said it will be made public if charges are laid. The Mountie has been reassigned to desk duty while the investigation is underway.
Few details of the crash have been confirmed, including whether the officer submitted to a roadside breathalyzer test at the scene.
In a release issued Monday morning, Thiessen said the crash investigation may hinge on a single witness, whom Mounties are urging to come forward.
"It is critical to the investigation that the driver of a black Volvo who may have witnessed the incident… contact the RCMP," Thiessen said.
