Many drivers are frustrated by the Hollywood movie shoot that will close the Georgia Viaduct for several days this month, but they’re not the only ones.
Some residents living near the location where the Ryan Reynolds movie “Deadpool” is being filmed say the shoot has disrupted their lives. And they say the film crews have been less-than-understanding about it.
“They lit up my room like it was daytime,” said Robert Surette, who lives on Abbott Street near where some scenes were shot earlier this week.
“I kind of got upset and I yelled out the window at them,” he said. “You can’t light up my room like it’s daytime. I’ve got to be up at four and be at work at six.”
Surette said the spotlight was on his room until 3 a.m., and when he complained about it, the crews were dismissive.
His annoyance was captured on video by Steve Barney, who lives in a building across the street.
Barney said many residents in the neighbourhood were unaware that the movie would be shot in the middle of the night, right next to residential buildings.
Starting on Sunday, Abbott Street residents won’t be the only ones whose lives are affected by the film.
That’s the day the Georgia Viaduct will close for shooting for the first time, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The viaduct will also be closed from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays between April 6 and 16, and after the road reopens at 3 p.m., there will remain a 100-metre section that will be limited to one lane.
The viaduct will be closed from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on April 11, and the production also has the option of using it on April 12, 17, and 18.
The city says the film will result in $37.5 million being spent in Metro Vancouver.
