Norton has come out with a list of the 100 dirtiest websites -those with the largest number of threats to your computer. About half are sites with adult content -- that's to be expected. The other half are about a wide variety of subjects from deer hunting to catering, legal services and even figure skating.

Even websites that end in ".org" which usually signal above board organizations are on the dirty list as well as sites from ".com", ".net", and sites from other countries.

The 40 least safe sites averaged more than 20,000 threats on them and you are at risk just by going to the website.

To protect yourself, don't click on any links in e-mails, even ones that look legitimate. That's how a lot of people get to the bad sites. Before you go to a website you can check it on the Norton Safe Web site.

Free protection software for your computer is also available on these websites:

To fight viruses - Avira Antivir.

To prevent spyware- Windows Defender

And to stop spam- Spamfighter Standard

Combined, these should give you plenty of protection. One more thing, keep those programs and all your software up to date. It helps plug security holes that may have cropped up. So activate automatic updates and check regularly to see if you are getting the latest.
