The daughter of a "Real Housewives of Vancouver" cast member has been caught in the middle of a targeted drive-by shooting in Vancouver.
Mia Deakin, whose mother Jody Claman starred in both seasons of the popular reality show, was shot in the shoulder-area after gunfire broke out at a Chevron station in East Vancouver around 7 p.m. Sunday.
A witness told CTV Vancouver that a man was hanging out of the door of an SUV trying to hit a man on the street.
Deakin, 28, was rushed to hospital with gunshot wounds. Vancouver Police say she underwent surgery for a serious injury, and remains in hospital in stable condition.
The 27-year-old man she was with, Jeffrey Chang, was arrested on an outstanding warrant after being treated in hospital for a minor hand injury. He appeared in court Monday and was released from custody.
Sgt. Randy Fincham said investigators believe the shooting is targeted and are now examining whether the incident is gang-related.
“This was not random,” he said.
“Being a girlfriend… or being a friend of a gangster in Vancouver has serious consequences. We are warning young women to be very careful about who they’re associating with, because they can get hurt.”
No suspects have been taken into custody, and police are looking for a silver or gray SUV.
Thoughts and prayers
Several cast members of ‘Real Housewives of Vancouver’ sent their thoughts and prayers on Twitter for Deakin’s recovery.
"My prayers go out to @MiaClaman and her family tonight," wrote cast member Mary Zilba.
"Sending peace and love to Mia and family," Robin Reichman posted Sunday night.
