B.C. Premier Christy Clark has called a May 11 byelection in the Vancouver-Point Grey riding, where she will face off against prominent civil liberties lawyer David Eby.

The premier announced the byelection date Wednesday at a press conference in the riding formerly held by Gordon Campbell.

She said she looked forward to meeting with voters in the wealthy Vancouver enclave.

"It's going to be great listening to the issues that are on their mind," Clark said.

But she added that she isn't expecting an effortless victory.

"I don't think it's going to a free pass. I don't think it's going to be easy," she said.

Eby, formerly the executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association, announced his intention to oppose her of behalf of the NDP in a tweet soon after the byelection date was made official.

"Very excited to announce my byelection run against Christie Clark. I'll be looking for volunteers to help send a message. You in?" he wrote.

Eby said he has stepped down from his position with the BCCLA.

Clark was elected leader of the BC Liberals on Feb. 26. Before her re-entry into politics, she was working as a radio host.
