Thousands of transit users will need to adjust their commutes starting this weekend as TransLink gets ready to launch the Evergreen Line.
The existing network of SkyTrain routes is being changed as of Saturday to make way for the new line, which will connect Vancouver to Coquitlam.
TransLink said the Millennium Line will no longer travel all the way to Waterfront Station, instead going from VCC-Clark Station in Vancouver to Lougheed Town Centre in Burnaby.
The Expo Line will be split into two branches: One will travel between Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver to King George Station in Surrey, and the second will go from Waterfront to Production Way-University Station in Burnaby.
Vivienne King, president of the B.C. Rapid Transit Company, said the changes will all serve to simplify the system.
"When we have people travelling our system that don't use it every single day, it will be much simpler to know where the trains go and where they turn back," King said.
Passengers will be able to transfer between the Millennium and Expo lines at Commercial-Broadway, Lougheed, and Production Way-University stations, and even hop from one to the other on the same platform at the latter.
TransLink advises people planning to use the SkyTrain this weekend and beyond to double-check their route until they're used to the changes.
The launch date of the new Evergreen Line hasn't been set, but the B.C. government has promised it will be up and running before Christmas. Once it does, the Millennium Line will operate from VCC-Clark all the way to Lafarge Lake-Douglas Station in Coquitlam, with no transfer required.
