Vancouver Canucks fan Maggie Herger, who underwent brain surgery four years ago, says she's experiencing headaches after being hit in the head at a hockey game last week, and wants an apology from her alleged assailant.

The 16-year-old says she was wearing a Canucks jersey and had been defending the team's alternate captain Ryan Kesler when a drunk San Jose Sharks fan hit her on the head at HP Pavilion last Wednesday.

"The people behind us had been harassing us the whole time and saying very rude things," Herger told CTV News. "In second period, the second Sharks goal, I just felt two hands come down on the back of my head and I flew forward."

Herger, a Canadian living in Discovery Bay, Calif., said she suffered a concussion and had to be taken away from the arena in an ambulance.

She's also worried about future complications, having undergone surgery to have a brain tumour removed four years ago.

The Sharks issued a statement the day after the incident, saying that police interviewed her alleged assailant and the woman claimed she struck Herger accidentally – though the Canucks devotee doesn't buy the story.

"I don't know for sure, but the amount of force used and the fact that she didn't acknowledge it after it happened didn't seem like it could be an accident," Herger said.

Herger said she has to wait two weeks to see a specialist about her headaches, but an apology would help her out in the meantime.

"I just think I would get a lot of closure from that," she said.
