Can artificial turf be recycled?

M. Linklater saw our report about homeowners switching to artificial turf to deal with the chafer beetle problem. He was concerned about what happens to that fake lawn after it wears out. CTV News checked several sources. Right now the recycling option is limited.

In North America artificial turf is made in Dalton, Georgia where most carpet is manufactured and recycled, but there are no options to recycle in Metro Vancouver. That’s because there is no demand. Although many homeowners are now switching to artificial lawn, it lasts for up to 25 years and consumers aren’t ready to discard it just yet. There is a local company that recycles carpet called Pacific Recycling but it’s not accepting artificial lawn right now.

Does filing taxes late mean a refund delay?

Alma is going to be filing her taxes late this year because she's out of the country. She wonders if that's going to mean her refund is going to take longer. According to Revenue Canada, if you file online and are setup for direct deposit you can get your refund in as little as eight business days after filing. It can take up to six weeks to get a refund if you mail in your return. However, expect delays if there's an error or if you're set aside for a review.

What can you do to stop junk mail?

Tired of junk mail and bulk flyers? Stephen in East Vancouver and his fellow residents are fed up with it. Every week they’ve been getting piles of Courier newspapers and Shoppers Drug Mart flyers delivered, even though there are only four units in their building. They requested it be stopped but the deliveries kept coming until we reached out to the media company that delivers them. If a private delivery company is involved calling to them is the right move but it should be a building manager or someone in authority for the strata who makes the request. However, if unaddressed mail is coming from Canada Post put a note in your mail box to stop it. And if it continues, file a complaint. But you could still get some unwanted mail. Canada Post is required to deliver from some community newspapers and unaddressed government mail.
