A Burnaby, B.C., RCMP officer, who was injured after police say a robbery suspect plowed into his car at a road block, was released from the hospital Sunday.

The officer had suffered head and hip injuries in the Christmas Day incident.

According to police, a woman armed with a long-barreled weapon robbed a Chilliwack Esso gas station about 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 25.

A Chilliwack officer spotted a vehicle matching the description given to police and attempted to pull the vehicle over.

The driver did not stop and the officer ended the pursuit, police said.

A short time later, an Abbotsford police officer in an unmarked car spotted the vehicle heading west on Highway 1 at Whatcom Road.

Police said the officer did not engage in a pursuit but followed the vehicle at normal speeds.

Officers from other departments also helped monitor the vehicle.

At one point, while the suspect vehicle was stopped in traffic, RCMP activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the suspect.

The suspect began to drive away, police said.

A Burnaby RCMP officer deployed a spike belt, which caught two of the suspect vehicle's tires.

The vehicle veered to the left and rammed a marked Burnaby RCMP vehicle with an officer in it.

The officer is an 18-year veteran and was recently promoted to corporal.

The 34-year-old female driver was arrested and taken into custody. She is due to appear in court on Monday.
