Burnaby RCMP is investigating an overnight stabbing that ended with the victim pleading for help at a nearby motel.

Officers were called to the Kingsway Street Best Western at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday morning, after a man was found in front of the motel suffering from multiple stab wounds.

He was rushed to hospital by Emergency Health Services, where he was declared in serious, but not critical condition.

RCMP Insp. Gary Leydier says the victim has not been cooperating with the investigation.

"He is known to police," Leydier said Sunday morning. "We don't think the public is in any jeopardy at this point."

RCMP are currently trying to obtain surveillance camera footage from neighbouring businesses and interviewing witnesses to determine the timeline of events leading to the victim's collapse.
