A teenaged "barefoot bandit" who has led police on a wild-goose chase from B.C. to Oregon has allegedly struck again in the U.S. Midwest.
Washington State teenager Colton Harris-Moore is wanted for more than 50 burglaries across the Pacific Northwest.
His latest alleged crime spree has the "teen Houdini" dipping into South Dakota, where police believe he broke into an airport, stole a car, and then found his way into someone's home.
Police say the 19-year-old, who allegedly commits crimes without shoes, has broken into dozens of homes, stolen more than $1 million worth of boats and cars, and crashed at least four planes.
B.C. investigators say he's a suspect in a break-in at the Creston airport, where two planes were moved and a vehicle was stolen.
On the internet, Harris-Moore has become something of a folk hero. He has more than 43,000 fans on Facebook, where admirers post comments like "Fly, Colton, fly!"
His fan club has even gone so far as to start a legal defence fund, and sells T-shirts with the slogan "Momma Tried."
Law enforcement across North America are working together in the hopes of catching Harris-Moore, but according to SFU criminologist Ray Corrado, it's unlikely the teen will turn himself in.
"The typical, high-risk-taking individual won't stop until they're caught," Corrado said. "The danger here is that he could get killed."
