The suspect in the murder of a Kelowna, B.C. woman has been found dead on a Mexican beach.

RCMP say Mexican authorities believe 51-year-old Gregory Payne died of natural causes on Nov. 10.

The death comes seven days after his common-law-wife, 45-year-old Kim Simpson, was found dead by police at the couple's 4th storey Kelowna apartment on Lakeshore Road. The body had been in the apartment for several days before it was discovered.

Simpson's Calgary-based family contacted authorities because they hadn't heard from her for several days.

Payne is believed to have left Canada in late October after quitting his job at a local gas station.

More than 200 people attended a memorial service in Kelowna for Simpson last week. She had a daughter and two young grandsons.

The investigation of her death continues.
